  • All for you

Last night about 11:30 we had some pretty nasty weather our way.  There was a tornado that touched down about 120 miles from here and was on the ground for at least 80 of those miles.  It took out a nursing home (no word on casualties or anything) AND one of the two state college campuses around here.  The damage to the campus was around $20 million!!!

I was about 10 miles away playing Wii with my friend, her brother and SIL, while Fiancee and Piggy were both home asleep.  Normally storms don't bother me no matter how bad they get.  And living in the midwest all my life, I have NEVER seen a tornado in person, so I wasn't too worried.  Until you factor in my seven and a half month old baby.  Then I got worried.  I knew Fiancee would take care of her, but I wanted to be here with them (mainly her) in case we needed to go to the basement.  I'd just never forgive myself if something DID happen to me or them, and we weren't together, as weird as that sounds.  Anyway, I knew that if the sirens went off (which they did) that Fiancee is such a deep sleeper that he wouldn't hear them (which he didn't; I had to call and wake him).  My friend was driving me home and we were about three minutes away when I called him.  Had him get up and get dressed, get the diaper bag ready to take to the basement and keep an eye on the weather.  Told him to let Piggy sleep and I'd be home in a few.  Wouldn't you know it that as soon as we turned on my street, the sirens were shut off.  I came inside and Fiancee had the t.v. on and it was all going to the north-east of us.  Which was fine by me, because that meant I didn't have to wake my baby.

In other news, we started giving Piggy Gerber puffs a couple of days ago so she can work on her raking and pincher fine motor skills.  I always put her in her high chair to have them so she learns that we don't walk/crawl/roll around and eat.  Plus, it's helps prevent choking.

Just a little bit ago, Fiancee was home on his lunch break.  He was eating pizza and there's not much of it she could have, but she was fussing at him to share (even though she'd had her bottle and solids less than 30 minutes ago).  So I got up and got her some puffs, cut them in half (to help prevent choking) and said 'screw the high chair' and sat on the living room floor with her to feed her.  I figured I was sitting right there and paying attention, so I could keep an eye on her.  Fiancee got up to put his plate in the trash and I gave Piggy another half-Puff, then she started to roll onto her back.  I reached over and stopped her saying, "no baby; you can't lie on your back and eat.  You might choke."  Just then, she started gagging.

Now, I'm not a hysterical person, but I am shocked at what I did.

I reached over and cupped my hand under her chin on the off chance that she'd vomit.  Which she did.  It wasn't much; just the whole puff she choked on and some milky-looking spit from the puffs she'd eaten that had dissolved in her stomach and there was just enough to cup in the palm of my hand.

Now, two years ago that would have grossed me out and I would have probably retched myself and let her throw up on the rug.  But being a mom changes a LOT of stuff!!  I just caught it, very matter-of-factly, then had Fiancee bring me a bowl to dump it in and a towel to wipe her face and my hand on.  She kinda freaked so I comforted her afterwards, and Fiancee started gagging!!  Even though it didn't smell, just the sight of it turned his stomach.

So I guess the whole point of that is, I am so surprised at how much I've changed since having a baby.  The things you automatically do without thinking in order to protect and love your child.  It's just amazing.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday and I'll try and remember to blog more often!!

  • Getting to know...us!!

Hey, everyone!!  As I said in my first "post" I already have a Xanga, but I figured I'd start a blog just about being a mommy on here.

A little bit about my family and me.

I'm a 28 year-old SAHM to a GORGEOUS seven month-old little girl.  Piggy is my pride and joy and I am SSSOOOOOOOOO blessed to have her in my life and be her mommy.  She was born October 24th, 2007 by scheduled c-section and is absolutely perfect!!

Fiancee works as a juvenile corrections officer and has since mid-February.  We've been dating since September 2004 and have had our share of ups and downs, but are still going strong.  He has an eight year-old son who lives in Ohio, but he keeps in contact with him.

Other than that...not much else to say!!  I'm not sure if I'm going to post too many pictures here, or not.  But please stop by and leave me some comments!!

  • Hey, ladies!! I'm a first-time mommy to a beautiful little girl who was born 10/24/07. I have a Xanga, but figured I'd try this out, too. Blogs are like shoes; you can NEVER have too many!!
